HOW Pregnancy Happens
What happens when you get pregnant? It starts with fertilization. Fertilization (conception) kicks off the first week of human development when the fertilized egg travels from the fallopian tube to the uterus. The embryo will then nestle into the soft velvety lining of the uterus and implant. Implantation occurs about one week after fertilization – and triggers the production of hormones which is what a pregnancy test will detect.
Fertilization is when the sperm breaks through the cell wall of the egg
During fertilization, human life is formed, and on day one, gender, hair color, and eye color are determined.
Fertilization takes about 24 hours to complete
WHEN Pregnancy Happens
There are roughly 5 days each month when a woman can get pregnant. Each month one of the ovaries should release an egg (alternating months between ovaries). The day the ovary releases an egg into the fallopian tube is called ovulation. When sex occurs, sperm travels through the reproductive system and can live inside the fallopian tube on average, three days. Because the egg lives 24 hours, and the sperm lives approximately three days, there is a 4 – 5 day window surrounding ovulation whereby pregnancy may occur.
