At-Home Abortion Information

Abortion At Home

An abortion at home is a personal choice.  This allows a woman to choose who is present with her for emotional support, or to be alone if she prefers discretion.  Some women consider at-home abortions to be a longer process than a traditional surgical abortion and are concerned they may have complications outside of a medical facility or hospital.

Once choosing abortion at home, there are two options: a telehealth appointment with a mail-out service (abortion by mail) or an appointment with a local abortion provider.

Some women choose a telehealth professional to determine their eligibility for medical abortion (abortion pill, also known as Plan C). However a telehealth professional cannot perform a physical examination via ultrasound and therefore is unable to determine factors that are critical to the type of abortion a woman is eligible for.  A telehealth examiner cannot confirm a viable pregnancy ruling out miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.  That is why it’s important to get a pre-abortion screening before making your pregnancy decision.

Why Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic?

At Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic we provide a pre-abortion screening at no cost, which will confirm several things:

  • Determine fetal age (a positive pregnancy test does not mean you have a viable pregnancy)
  • Ensure you have not miscarried (up to 1 in 4 known pregnancies may end in miscarriage)
  • Rule out ectopic pregnancy (which in some cases can be fatal)

Our licensed medical professionals will conduct the screening, and our staff can discuss your options with you. Knowing all the facts and associated risks before starting the abortion procedure is a vital next step.

Be Safe

According to the FDA, the abortion pill is not a safe option for those who:

  • has an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside of the uterus)
  • has problems with the adrenal glands (the glands near the kidneys)
  • is currently being treated with long-term corticosteroid therapy (medications)
  • has had an allergic reaction to the medications used in the medication abortion protocol
  • has bleeding problems or is taking anticoagulant (blood thinning) drug products
  • has inherited porphyria
  • has an intrauterine device (IUD) in place

Other safety considerations:

  • the need for a follow-up visit
  • having immediate access to emergency care
  • blood testing for RH factor

Before you make an abortion decision, get a no-cost pre-abortion screening appointment at our clinic today.

A: The abortion pill is available in-clinic or by mail through telehealth and can cost between $249 – $800 depending upon location, services available, and insurance provider. Costs may include: lab work, exam, and follow-up visit. If the abortion pill fails and your pregnancy continues, you may also have to pay for a second abortion procedure. A: You can get an abortion pill either through an abortion provider’s clinic or by an online mail source.  For mail order, in most cases, a telehealth appointment is required and the medication for the abortion is sent directly to you without an in-person physical examination.  A physical examination is important because it dates the pregnancy, rules out ectopic pregnancy, and determines viability (if you are at risk for miscarriage).  At Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic you can receive a pre-abortion screening at no-cost by a medical professional.

A: Missed period pill is another name for the abortion pill.  Some people may think it might help them psychologically if they’re unsure about abortion.  Regardless of its name, you should know that it is an abortion.

Frequently Asked Questions

PRC San Clemente offers a range of free pregnancy services, including free pregnancy testing, free ultrasounds, information on abortion and the abortion pill, and STD testing. We are here to provide support and information to women facing unplanned pregnancies in San Clemente and surrounding areas.

Our tests can be performed 7 to 10 days after conception. A client with a negative result may be invited to return within 2 weeks for a repeat test if she has not had her period.

If you have taken a home pregnancy test, you may want to confirm results with a laboratory-quality test at our center or mobile clinic. Our tests detect HCg levels within 7 to 10 after conception.

While walk-ins are welcome, we recommend making an appointment to ensure you receive timely service. You can easily schedule an appointment online or call us at our San Clemente or Niguel mobile clinic.

You’ll be welcomed by our receptionist who will introduce you to your client advocate.  She will listen to you judgment-free and provide you with information followed by a pregnancy test.  Should your test be positive, one of our caring medical professionals will conduct a limited ultrasound to confirm if you have a viable pregnancy and date fetal age.

Absolutely! You can bring your boyfriend, family member, or friend. We will first meet with you for the initial intake. Then, provided you have given us consent to have them in the room, your guest will be able to join you.

We adhere to a strict privacy and confidentiality policy. Clients will be protected from disclosure of information that violates the right to privacy except when required by law, required for public health reasons, required to avert a threat of harm to the client or a third person, or when other circumstances may reasonably warrant such use or disclosure without prior authorization (e.g., abuse reporting, suicide/homicide prevention, etc.).

Our professional, medical-grade lab quality pregnancy test can determine pregnancy on the first day after your first missed period. We recommend you make an appointment if you have missed a period, have any pregnancy related questions, or think you might be pregnant.

On-site ultrasounds are available after an initial intake with one of our client advocates.  Our limited ultrasound exams are performed by a licensed nurse sonographer or RDMS (registered sonographer) and reviewed by a licensed physician.  An ultrasound confirms a viable pregnancy and determines how far along you are.  To qualify for a limited ultrasound, you’ll need to be a minimum of 6 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period.

You can still meet with a member of our staff to discuss your concerns and review available options.  An ultrasound is recommended to know if your pregnancy is viable and in your uterus, since 20% – 25% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage.  Additionally, the ultrasound will show how far along you are to determine what type of abortion you would choose.  We can provide a limited ultrasound at no cost to you.

PRC San Clemente provides comprehensive information about all your options, including detailed information on abortions and the abortion pill. Our trained staff can answer your questions and provide non-judgmental support to help you make an informed decision.

Answer: Yes, we offer free STD testing to ensure your health and well-being. Early detection and treatment of STDs are crucial for your reproductive health.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The team members are so rude and inconsiderate. They have no compassion and have a flaccid demeanor. When comfort was needed there was none given and immediately went to worst case scenarios and sent me on my way. When someone is alone and scared, step up and at least be a human and show kindness. If you’re alone or having a first time experience of something that should be joyful, find someone to bring with you because this staff will not be it for you.

Best place ever. Everyone is so kind and comforting and very clearly genuinely care about you, your story, and your needs. The office is SO clean, and has such a calming, peaceful atmosphere. I am so grateful to have found this place, seriously my saving grace. Can not say enough good things. I left crying happy tears and feeling a humongous weight lifted off my shoulders. Forever thankful for this place and the amazing ladies that work there.

These pregnancy centers are a blessing , every beating heart is a life created . I had 3 miscarriages , I saw this little person from 2 weeks conception on ...I truly know God intricately weaves the cells together to make the being he designed ...may God give you wisdom and peace that HE will determine the life here or that HE will take the life for now and we will be united in Heaven ❤️
