DO THEY CARE ABOUT WOMEN’S HEALTH?

Do non-profit pregnancy centers care about women’s health?  Let’s respond with a resounding, YES!  You may have heard negative claims about Crisis Pregnancy Centers, Pregnancy Resource Centers, and/or Pregnancy Care Clinics.  Before we address the claims, we want to state we can only respond on behalf of our center, Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic in San Clemente California.  At our medical clinic, we take a holistic approach to caring about the whole health of our clients; physical, mental, and spiritual.  As Care Net affiliates, we adhere to the Commitment of Care and Competence as described here.  

Five claims and how we at Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic (PRCMC) respond to these claims.

1. Crisis pregnancy centers do not provide abortion or abortion referral, and often times do not provide birth control or other forms of contraceptives

RESPONSE:  Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic does not refer or provide abortions.  All our services are at no cost to our clients and include pregnancy testing, pregnancy options counseling if needed, limited OB ultrasounds, community resources and referrals, prenatal and parenting classes, and material needs during pregnancy.   Our website states our scope of services to ensure our clients are informed.   

1. Crisis pregnancy centers may not be licensed medical clinics or be required to keep medical records private

RESPONSE:  Pregnancy Resouce Center Medical Clinic is licensed as a primary care clinic by the state of California.  , We e are required to keep medical records private.  We follow the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards, protecting our client’s health information from being disclosed without the client’s knowledge or consent. 

1. Crisis pregnancy centers may attempt to delay appointments or provide misinformation about the legality or safety of abortions

RESPONSE:  Our clients make their own appointments online at the time they choose.   They can also call the office for the next available appointment.  When a woman calls or texts to make an appointment we attempt to schedule her as soon as possible. 

At PRCMC we provide evidence-based information so our clients can make informed decisions. 

1. Crisis pregnancy centers may provide inaccurate health information about a person’s pregnancy and other aspects of reproductive healthcare

RESPONSE:  All the information we provide is fact-based, accurate, and backed by medical science. 

1. Crisis pregnancy centers often look like and are located near reproductive healthcare facilities that provide abortion.

RESPONSE: Our Center is located in a historic building near the beach,  just a short walk from the San Clemente pier.  The signs on our building have the name PREGNANCY RESOURCE CENTER on them so people know who we are.  The closest abortion clinic to our Center is 15 miles away in Mission Viejo.  

If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy and are concerned about what to do next, we are a safe place to discuss options, verify your pregnancy and how far along you are, confirm you are not in the process of a miscarriage, confirm the pregnancy is not ectopic, and find compassion and care all at no cost to you.
