To Ultrasound or Not to Ultrasound
Making a Pregnancy Decision? Ultrasound is an important part of the decision. A positive pregnancy test is an early indication you may be pregnant, but it can’t tell you much about your pregnancy. Ultrasounds are valuable tools and if you test positive at our Center than we will do our best to provide you with one. A prenatal ultrasound (also called a sonogram) is a noninvasive test that uses sound waves (not radiation as in an x-ray) to create a visual image.
The first reason you should have an ultrasound is to confirm that there is a viable (capable of living) pregnancy. The scan can tell us if your fetus is growing as it should, and can detect a fetal heartbeat six weeks past your last menstrual period.
Did you know, you may test positive for pregnancy even if you are experiencing a miscarriage? Your ultrasound can also confirm an in utero pregnancy verses a tubal ectopic pregnancy (when the fetus grows in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus). It may also be able to tell if you’re pregnant with multiples.
Considering an abortion? Did you know that it is estimated that 20% of all pregnancies end miscarriage? Having a limited ultrasound will confirm if the pregnancy is in tact. If there is sign of miscarriage, you could be spared the abortion, the cost, and potential risks of abortion.
Another reason to have an ultrasound is to find out how far along you are. This is important when you are considering different pregnancy options. Our Client Advocate will provide you all the facts on abortion, placing for adoption and parenting.
At Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic, our nurses and staff are ready to serve at ‘no cost to you,’ giving you accurate information about your options so that you can make an informed decision.
