Before an Abortion

Your health and well-being are our top priorities.  It’s your pregnancy, your future, and your choice. We care about you and want to empower you to make a fully informed decision.

If you are unsure about the answer to any of the questions, come in and talk with one of our staff or medical personnel.

Considering an Abortion? Take the time to go through our abortion safety checklist.

1. Confirm Your Pregnancy

Did you know that a pregnancy test alone does not medically confirm your pregnancy? Medical confirmation can be provided through an ultrasound. An ultrasound shows how far along you are, which determines the abortion procedures you qualify for.  At Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic, we will provide a lab-quality pregnancy test plus an ultrasound to confirm you have a pregnancy in your uterus (and not ectopic, or miscarrying).

2. Understand the Risks

As with any medical procedure, there are a number of risks associated with abortion. Whether you are considering a medical or surgical abortion, you need to be prepared by understanding the short and long-term risks. We encourage you to come in and speak with our medical staff to learn more about these risks.

3. Consider the Alternatives

In order to make a truly informed decision, it is important to consider all your options: abortion, adoption, and parenting. This decision can only be made by you and you alone. Taking the time to consider each option gives you the confidence you need to make the best decision for you.

4. Get Tested and Treated for STI/STDs

If you have an abortion with an untreated STD/STI, you are at increased risk for pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) which can result in future infertility or chronic pain. Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic offers free referrals for STD/STI testing and treatment to ensure your health.

5. Pause and ask

When faced with such an important decision it is beneficial to pause and be able to address your concerns. No matter what you choose for your unexpected pregnancy, we encourage you to visit the Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic and get answers to your questions so you can be confident in the decision you make.
