At The Center of the Center, is Love
“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you really want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down” – Oprah Winfrey
Love is at the center of our Center. It is who we are and what we are motivated by. When a woman enters through our Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic doors, we don’t know her situation. Is she happily excited? Anxious? Fearful? Confused? Does she feel defeated, with the world caving in on her? Is she seeking helpful advice and resources? All we know is that she chose our Center to share this time in her life and to receive what we have to offer. We want to be there for her regardless of her situation.
“Whosoever loves much, performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.” – Vincent Van Gogh
So why “love” them…? We could just “work” and get our “job” done. Here is the very simple answer. Where you give your time and resources reveals what you love. Not a single staff member at Pregnancy Resource Center Medical Clinic is there for the money – in fact 90% of the people that work there – are actually volunteers, giving their time to help someone else. Our staff chooses to be the extension of love that women in crisis need. We understand that a woman facing a challenge needs a support system. Support comes in many forms.
We support our clients in simple and practical ways, with the help of our donors. These donors, love our clients MORE than they love their money. So much so that they literally pay for the building, the electricity, the heat and cooling, the interior design and most importantly the pregnancy tests, ultrasound machine, all the materials used in our parenting and life skills classes. They keep our baby boutique stocked, and provide many of the resources, brochures and pamphlets we need each day.
“Love is what we have been through with somebody.” – James Thurber
Loving Volunteers and Staff
Another way we support our clients is through our trained Client Advocates. Each Advocate dedicates themselves to on-going training, being equipped to listen and respond to our clients with compassion, sharing information and resources that will meet each person where they are at. Some of our client advocates have experienced an unexpected pregnancy, and were faced with make a pregnancy decision, whether it was abortion, adoption, or single-parenting. As women we bond with – as they say today – our squad, and knit tightly together with support and encouragement the other needs. We assist our client to identify those in her existing circle that will help support her.
Our Medical Team of nurses and ultrasound techs gently guide our clients/patients with care as they perform OB ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy, dating and viability of pregnancy. Depending upon her circumstance, this can be either a welcome sight or it can be complicated. Many women are not looking for a cheering section, but a shoulder to lean on.
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” –Paul
Our community reaches outside the Center as well. There are many options for clients to remain in school. Our client advocates will help (tense – 1st person?) you seek the counsel on your campus to make completion possible. For those who need housing during their pregnancy, we can refer several maternity homes. Plus we refer adoption agencies that provide open and closed adoptions (birth-mom’s choice!). We can direct you to local food banks and providers to help aid a financial insecurity. Our resources abound.
Love is not visible, but the evidence of love is seen.
